A group of manufacturing companies in Georgia have partnered together to present the Manufacturers Education Foundation (MEF) Scholarship to three students at Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC). The scholarship targets students who stand out with their academic achievements.

The goal of the scholarships is to help students pursue career training in order to strengthen the local economy. The three students received a $500 stipend and $1,500 toward their academic year.

Starting Salaries Grow at Construction Companies
“Construction companies are offering higher wages to attract skilled labor to the industry, which is expanding in 2018 largely because of tax cuts, Fox Business reports. Three quarters of U.S. construction companies are looking to hire in the coming months, up from 73 percent at the same time last year, according to The Associated General Contractors of America.

As most plan to expand their workforce, however, 82 percent of construction companies believe hiring skilled labor to fill those positions will either remain difficult or become harder, a 6 percent increase from last year.”

TAP worth 4.5 billion euros is a part of the Southern Gas Corridor, which is one of the priority energy projects for the European Union. The project envisages transportation of gas from Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz Stage 2 to the EU countries.”

Welding Causes Major Bridge Fire
“Fire authorities have revealed a massive abattoir blaze at Murray Bridge, south-east of Adelaide, was sparked by a maintenance worker who was welding a bin. The Metropolitan Fire Service said the worker had been working on an offal bin.

‘The worked tried to put the fire out but unfortunately it got into a highly combustible wall and spread quite rapidly,’ assistant chief fire officer Phil Kilsby said.”
